HOW DOES WATCHING A FILM BECOME AN ACT OF UNDERSTANDING THE WORLD?

With distinguished Film Critic, Director, Screenwriter Giannis Davvetas

Masterclass for Teens (Ages 14-18) - in Greek

Saturday, March 21

Start: 17:15 Ι Workshop duration: 90'

EVENT LOCATION: Basil & Elise Goulandris Foundation

Within the framework of Psaroloco, filmmaker and film critic Giannis Davvetas presents a Masterclass that invites teenagers to become The Next Film Critics.

This Masterclass teaches participants how to truly read a film beyond first impressions, learning to analyze cinema not just as viewers, but as storytellers. Through close observation of scripts, images, editing, sound, and performance, students will discover how films communicate meaning and emotion, and how every creative choice serves the story.

Rather than passive consumption, the focus is on developing active cinematic thinking: understanding how films are constructed, why scenes work, and how images guide the audience’s perception. Social themes and context will be explored when relevant to the films discussed, showing how cinema can reflect reality without reducing analysis to theory.

What We Will Explore

From Viewer to Analyst
How to move from “I liked it” or “I didn’t like it” to structured, confident film analysis.

Cinematic Language
How script, image, framing, editing, and sound work together to tell a story.

Reading Between the Frames
How meaning is created through visual choices, subtext, and narrative structure.

Critical Thinking as a Creative Tool
How analysis sharpens imagination and helps future creators tell stronger stories.

Who Is It For?

Designed for teenagers aged 14–18 who love cinema, series, and visual storytelling, and who want to understand how films actually work. No prior knowledge is required, only curiosity.

Participants will analyze contemporary audiovisual works and begin developing their own critical voice, learning to watch films with sharper eyes and deeper understanding.
